Rafael Calvo, a relevant advocate of the Spanish footwear sector, died at the age of 69
Madrid – A big loss for the footwear sector, the former president of the Spanish Footwear Industries Association (FICE), Rafael Calvo, passed away Wednesday 8th October 2014 at the age of 69.
Rafael Calvo was born in Madrid in 1944; he was a lawyer and officer of the Senior Management of the State. Calvo has been active in the footwear industry in Spain and Europe in the past three decades. He has been FICE’s General Secretary and then President. His work was very much appreciated, not only in Spain but all over the world, in particular during his mandate as President of the European Confederation of the Footwear Industry (CEC) from 2005 to 2009. He then became CEC Honorary President.
Among other positions, he served as a counsellor for ICEX - Spain Trade and Investment, was a member of the board of the Spanish Confederation of Business Organisations (CEOE), Vice President of the Foundation Ficia, Member of the Executive Committee of the Chamber of Commerce Industry and Navigation of Alicante and he has been present in many forums, representing the footwear industry.
In FICE he has been described as: "Tireless fighter of decided character and a strong personality, was tough but flexible, able to reach agreement on the most difficult situation and to focus on achieving consensus for the industry. He brought the footwear industry at the highest level”.
