CEC and Co-signatories Hand Over EU Industrial Strategy to Committee of the Regions Rapporteur
On 21 November 2017, the CEC and a delegation of Industry4Europe, an alliance of European industrial sector associations pushing for a new EU industrial strategy, handed over their joint paper "For an ambitious EU industrial strategy" in reaction to the European Commission Communication "Investing in a smart, innovative and sustainable industry: A renewed EU Industrial Policy Strategy" to Mr Heinz Lehmann, German EPP Member of the Committee of the Regions (CoR) and Member of the Saxony Regional Parliament, who is Rapporteur of the future Committee’s Opinion on A European strategy for industry: the role and perspective of regional and local authorities.
The joint paper identifies key objectives and missing measures needed to ensure a robust EU industrial strategy, taking the Commission Communication as a starting point. The paper presents recommendations, divided into 6 main components of the Industrial Strategy, namely from the point of view of business-friendly environment and governance; skills and training; research and innovation; access to finance; internal market; and trade and international market access.
The specific recommendations offered by the coalition of industrial sectors will help inform Mr Lehmann's work in delineating the actions that can be taken at regional and local level to boost economic growth and job creation through supporting the manufacturing industry.
Industry4Europe is supporting and engaging with the European institutions to assist in shaping and implementing a long-term European industrial strategy that will help safeguard the global leadership of European manufacturers and jobs in Europe.
