A €2 Handling Fee Will Not be Enough To Protect Consumers, Nor Protect EU Business from Unfair Competition

We support the symbolic step of a proposed €2 handling fee on non-EU online purchases, but it falls far short of addressing the real issue: the daily flood of unsafe, non-compliant products entering the EU unchecked. This minimal fee won’t stop dangerous goods from reaching consumers or help EU businesses compete fairly.
Without stronger rules and proper enforcement, online platforms will continue to facilitate the sale of high-risk products without accountability. The EU must act urgently to close legal loopholes, hold platforms responsible, and ensure consumer safety.
