Green Deal ambition for sustainable products threatened by gaping online sales loophole

Together with more than 30 EU industry associations, the CEC claims more legal certainty in the framework of the upcoming Ecodesign for Sustainable Product Regulation (ESPR). As it is the case in other proposals within the Circular Economy Action Plan, the exclusion of liability for economic operators based in third countries and placing products on digital marketplaces are a matter of concern threatening the competitiveness of EU businesses. In addition, the current proposal risks hampering the EU’s efforts to reach the sustainability goals defined in the EU Green Deal and to ensure the safety of consumers.
