VETting Green: Fighting Misinformation and Greenwashing in the Footwear Sector

The Erasmus+ VETting Green project aims to combat greenwashing in the European footwear sector by developing vocational education training courses to help footwear industry stakeholders distinguish genuine sustainable practices from deceptive marketing strategies. Utilising digital tools and augmented reality modules, the courses will engage learners through interactive methods.

Partnering with vocational training providers and consumer representatives from five countries (Spain, Belgium, Portugal, Italy and Greece), the project aligns with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals and the EU’s Circular Economy Action Plan. Proposed directives on consumer empowerment and substantiating green claims further emphasise the need to address misleading environmental claims.

By the end of the project, VETting Green wishes to generate knowledge among current and future workers in the sector, as well as among consumers of footwear and other textile products, in order to reach a common understanding of sustainable practices and concepts that improve transparency and avoid intentional or unintentional greenwashing by companies in the footwear sector and beyond.
